Despite the long list of case types we state this firm covers, they are actually specialists. Litigation matters such as personal injury have huge range of sub-titles including medical negligence, slips/trips, work accidents, whiplash, and so on. This splinter naming isn't nearly as prolific amongst other areas of law such as divorce or crime. Litigation issues tend to follow the same pattern though and most Personal Injury firms will cover the majority of types.

The reason for covering that little information nugget about case titles was also to emphasise the point being made in this statement from the Argue & Co website:

It's true that even with the huge range of options available to people these days such as Direct Access barristers or no win no fee arrangements (plus a host of television adverts over the years going on about how easy claiming is) people can still be quite nervous about taking up a case. Especially in more personally involved circumstances such as suing an employer or a friend's insurance company after a crash where you were an injured passenger.

The second part of that snippet though is only possible if the firm has enough expertise and experience to make sure the case runs efficiently. So how do you judge such things? Sadly in Scotland the Law Society does not provide nearly as much useful user-side information as their English/Welsh counterpart. The Scottish site has several articles about the launch of this firm, but not a lot of good details such as staff, specialties, or qualification dates. There isn't even a stand alone page of information for most Scottish law firms on the Law Society site. Normally there is just a few bits of basic inforation in some search results

That all checks out though, as you will already know if you read either of the two example articles we linked to above. So it would seem that both experience and expertise are with this particular firm. That leads us to another important factor when choosing a lawyer to represent you - enthusiasm. No, really. We've talked to hundreds upon hundreds of potential clients over the twenty years we've been working in the legal industry. If this were a Family Fortunes game, the top answer as to why someone chose a firm would be ethusiasm. i.e. the person they spoke to simply seemed more interested in their case.

This is very much part of the mental balancing act people perform when selecting a firm. On one hand they imagine a larger firm will have larger resources to draw on and bigger 'clout' against third parties. However it's easy to imagine getting lost in the numbers at a large firm as well. That brings us back to the tie-breaker we mentioned before and why we always recommend calling the firm to speak to someone.
You will find it more likely for an actual solicitor to answer the phone and talk to you at a smaller firm which clients tend to feel better about. Having to relay details of your accident and injuries to a more-secretarial staff member can feel a little like having to explain your embarrasing symptoms to the GPs receptionist. Not as bad as that. But not exactly what most people expect when calling.




You would think that these days (and especially after the pandemic hit) most law firms would offer this sort of contact flexibility. But they really don't. So when you see firms offering such on their website, don't just flick over it like it's nothing. The legal industry genuinely is one where the wheels of progress and modernisation turn a lot slower. It was only five years ago that a solicitor said to me 'that internet thing? no, we don't do that'.



We would expect every solicitor doing injury litigation matters to offer no win no fee arrangements for most case types. Be clear though: no win, no fee only means that if you lose there are no fees. No win no fee is not the same as the 100% compensation slogans you see some firms declaring as well. Any half decent solicitor will explain if there are any success fees early on though. Also some cases such as medical negligence will always have success fees due to their complexity. You can read an article here where we cover the 'why' on that one.



Again, free consultations are something we would absolutely expect any law firm to offer these days for these types of cases. So what are the review boards saying about Argue & Co as a firm? Well at the time of writing there were only a handful of reviews around the web in the usual places (Google, Trustpilot, Yell, Yelp, etc).



A lack of reviews should never be taken as a negative sign though. Even zero reviews is not a bad sign. It depends greatly on the case type. We've seen conveyancing firms with over a thousand reviews on a single review site. Then there will be a fifty year established divorce specialists with less reviews than I have fingers. (And I'm missing a couple of those.) It's just that unlike reviewing the food or service at a restaurant - people are not nearly as quick to share their experience of being defended in criminal court, a messy divorce, or dealing with the probate of a dead loved one.

This can make it harder and you need to read the actual comments when it comes to lawyer reviews - not just flick through stars. We've seen the most absurd negative reviews against solicitors. We've seen reviews posted by the opposing (losing) side in a case. We've seen a criminal defense firm insulted for not taking someone's divorce case. And even a one star rating for a firm having moved offices to a place where the person had to pay for street parking instead of it being free.

A quick note on navigation. Despite the owner's surname being a generic word (argue) the firm shows up fine for the majority of it's terms on search engines. The official site is www.argueandco.co.uk which we link to above whilst www.argueandco.com currently is not owned by anyone. There are a few "& Co" firms we've covered before that use a www.argueand.co.uk style and please remember that you can't have ampersands in web addresses - so none of the argue&co variants would work. You'll just see auto search results from your browser.

General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Argue & Co Legal it's best to visit the website (www.argueandco.co.uk), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
