Amnesty Immigration Solicitors Ltd based in Stratford, London: Review

Usually I wait anything from 3-6 months before writing a review on a firm that we actually work with. However, there's a few things I really want to cover asap about Amnesty now they are officially on our network. I will come back and update as time goes on though.

Obviously Amnesty Solicitors are a specialist firm like many others we've been seeking out recently. Whilst we were already very aware that people want specialists when it comes to motor offences, criminal defence, and bankruptcy - not alot of people were too concerned about simply using a general law firm for things like family law, wills, and personal injury. The same was true of immigration. However, in recent years with the huge political upheavals regarding immigration - this has clearly changed.

Luckily after nearly two decades in the legal industry, we have quite a large connection base to ask recommendations from. Amnesty was one of the firms recommended by it's peers.

Amnesty Solicitors Ltd

At first glance there are a few traditional indicators as to why people recommended them. Things like winning awards, having highly accredited solicitors, an active online presence, and so on. Although both the firm and I have some other, quite different, reasons for setting Amnesty apart as something better than average. First, Amnesty's reasons:

"Unlike other law firms, we handle all aspects of work on a clients case, We conduct our own advocacy from the First Tier Tribunal to the High Court, Royal Courts of Justice ... we are one of only a small handful of firms whose lawyers are solicitor-advocates, with accreditation to level 2 of the Law Society Immigration Accrediation Scheme. This is what really sets us apart from any of our rivals, because we can assure all of our clients that we will start and finish their case ..." [sic]

I'm sure you'll agree that this is something substantial for them to inform and even boast about. The majority of law firms will state their selling points using words such as "synergistic", "friendly", "diverse", "pro-active", and other vague adjectives that sound good but really tell you nothing. Considering the importance of Amnesty's difference, we're surprised the above statement is only printed on the website's inner pages rather than the front page. There's certainly plenty of room at the front. In fact, in my browser the firm's logo took up nearly half the page. I mean, it's certainly a pretty logo. But the information quoted above is far more impressive in my opinion.

The same goes for the fact this firm actually deals with Judicial Reviews. The stark horrors of which I've been hearing about first hand from my American brother-in-law who was recently denied a visa to move to Scotland with his wife (my Sister) and their three children (all born here). They were married in Scotland but chose to live the first 5-6 years in the USA. Anyway, they were surprised to find that most of the immigration firms they contacted would not help. Yes, I recommended Amnesty Solicitors to them so I might have some insightful stuff to add to this article later on.

"It is important that you act quickly if wish to bring a judicial review as the time frames in most cases are within three months of the decision, and in some other areas it can be within six weeks."

I would like to have seen some case studies discussed on the site, but there is plenty of information about the firm's Principal Solicitor and Managing Director - Neveen Galal. She even has her own website. Having practised since 2003, Neveen has The Law Society's Immigration Accreditation and was one of the first lawyers to successfully challenge the government's Fast Track Detention System back in 2005. Two other accolades that stand out would be her being listed in the Top 100 SuperLawyers 'Rising Stars' from 2013-2015, and her entry into the Who's Who of Britain's Business Elite in 2009. Whilst known for her extensive work with unaccompanied asylum seeking children, victims of modern day slavery, human trafficking, unlawful detentions, and deportations - she is also a member of the Association of Women lawyers, ILPA, JCWI and Women in Business Network.

Neveen is the only staff member with a profile listed on the website, but we guarantee there are other people working there! In fact the page about Neveen seems (to me) to be the only one providing enough information about the reasons to choose Amnesty over another immigration firm. But the reason I wanted to get this information in front of our site visitors sooner rather than later is not just because the firm themselves aren't making enough of a song and dance about their positive points.

"I was recommended by my support worker to help me with my EEA residence permit and the solicitor was very professional and supportive and my application was successful and I have now Indefinite Leave to Remain within a short time. I have made the right choice with the right solicitor who knows her stuff well."

Please note that despite the similarities in name and topic, the firm has nothing to do with the charity Amnesty International. Therefore be careful when searching for information online. We link to the web address www.amnestysolicitors.com from this page, but at the moment www.amnestysolicitors.co.uk will redirect you there too. There are plenty of other websites with amnesty and/or immigration in the URl though, and at the moment if you search for "amnesty immigration" you'll be confronted with more news stories than actual immigration firms.

If you do end up trying to search for the firm's name, like most Limited firms you'll see a whole bunch of company search websites listed in the results which will tell you that Amnesty Solicitors Ltd was only incorporated in Oct of 2015. I hope I've made it clear in this piece that such absolutely does not mean the firm only has a couple of year's experience in immigration.

Lastly, we should also point out that Amnesty Solicitors joined the National Solicitors network at some point which means there is a mini-site stating information about an immigration firm using that name. Yes - it is the exact same firm. However, the mini-site seems to have a much more recent set of news articles and active Twitter feed. Neither seem to be written by the firm themselves but rather by National Solicitors. For example they link to an @StratfordNS Twitter feed instead of the official @AmnestySols. So watch out for that.

General Notes: Usually if Legal Aid is possible we've mentioned it above, but you can always ask. We haven't looked in depth at their recruitment program so are unaware of any job vacancies available. For a career with Amnesty Solicitors Ltd it's best to visit the website (www.amnestysolicitors.com), check opening hours, and find the correct phone/email contact details. Simply emailing a CV to reception looks lazy. Each law firm's Law Society and/or SRA number should be on their site, usually at the bottom of each page.
